Our mission

brutonaarnettoberekenen.nl has a clear mission: to make Dutch tax calculations accessible, understandable and accurate for everyone. Whether you are an employee, freelancer (ZZP), expat or student, everyone deserves clear insight into what remains of their gross salary after taxes and social contributions.

The Dutch tax system is complex, with multiple brackets, tax credits, social insurance contributions and special arrangements such as the 30% ruling for expats. We translate this complexity into simple, clear calculators that give you a reliable result within seconds.

Our platform was born from a personal need: when Mottalib moved to the Netherlands, he found it surprisingly difficult to get a clear answer to the simple question "how much net salary will I actually receive?" Existing tools were either outdated, inaccurate, or hidden behind paywalls. That experience drove the creation of a free, transparent and always up-to-date salary calculator for the Netherlands.

Updated for 2026

All our calculators are fully updated for the tax year 2026. This means the most recent rates, brackets, tax credits and regulations have been incorporated, including:

We monitor legislative changes throughout the year and update our calculators as soon as new rates or rules are officially published. Our goal is to always reflect the current fiscal reality as accurately as possible, so you can trust the numbers you see.

Our sources

We base all our calculations on official and reliable sources:

Every number in our calculators can be traced back to an official government publication. We do not use estimates or approximations for core tax parameters. When the Belastingdienst publishes updated rates, we cross-reference them with the underlying legislation to ensure our implementation matches the official rules exactly.

Our methodology

Our calculation engine follows the same steps as the official Dutch payroll process. For the main gross-to-net calculator, this means:

  1. Gross salary normalization: We take your entered gross salary and normalize it to an annual figure, accounting for holiday allowance (vakantiegeld) and optional 13th month.
  2. Social insurance contributions: We calculate the employee share of Zvw (healthcare insurance), which is withheld by the employer and paid as an income-dependent contribution.
  3. Tax bracket application: Your taxable income is run through the 2026 tax brackets to determine the base income tax and social contributions (loonbelasting + premies volksverzekeringen).
  4. Tax credits: The general tax credit (algemene heffingskorting) and labour tax credit (arbeidskorting) are calculated based on your income level and subtracted from the tax liability.
  5. Special rules: If applicable, we apply the 30% ruling discount, the self-employment deduction, AOW exemptions, or other special provisions.
  6. Net result: The final net salary is your gross minus all taxes, contributions and credits.

All calculations run entirely in your browser using JavaScript. No salary data is ever sent to our servers. This ensures complete privacy and instant results without waiting for a server response.

Our calculators

We offer a wide range of free calculators, each designed to answer a specific financial question clearly and accurately:

Each calculator includes detailed explanations of the underlying rules, frequently asked questions, and links to official sources. We believe that understanding how a number is calculated is just as important as knowing the number itself.

Who uses our platform?

Our calculators serve a diverse audience across the Netherlands and beyond:

Whether you earn the minimum wage or a six-figure salary, our calculators handle all income levels accurately. We test edge cases such as very low incomes (where tax credits exceed the tax liability), very high incomes (above the social insurance ceilings), and special situations like the 30% ruling or multiple jobs.

Privacy and data protection

Your privacy is a core design principle of our platform. We have made deliberate architectural choices to protect your data:

While we strive for maximum accuracy, our calculations remain indicative. They are designed to give you a very close approximation of your net salary. For definitive figures, always consult a qualified tax advisor or refer to your official payslip.

Frequently asked questions

Is this website free to use?

Yes, all our calculators are completely free to use, with no registration required. We believe that everyone should have access to clear, accurate financial information regardless of their budget.

How often are the calculators updated?

We perform a comprehensive update at the start of each tax year (typically in December or January). Throughout the year, we monitor for mid-year changes such as updated tax credits, adjusted social insurance premiums, or new minimum wage levels.

Can I trust the results?

Our calculations are based on official government sources and follow the standard Dutch payroll methodology. They provide an excellent approximation of your actual net salary. However, individual circumstances (specific CAO agreements, additional deductions, employer-specific arrangements) may cause minor differences compared to your actual payslip.

Do you store my salary data?

No. All calculations happen entirely in your browser. We have no access to the numbers you enter. Your salary data never leaves your device.
