About Bruto Naar Netto Berekenen
Mottalib Radif
Personal Finance Expert
MBA INSEAD
Personal finance and taxation expert, MBA INSEAD graduate. Committed to making complex tax calculations understandable and accessible for everyone in the Netherlands. All calculators are regularly updated based on official sources from the Belastingdienst and Rijksoverheid.
Our mission
brutonaarnettoberekenen.nl has a clear mission: to make Dutch tax calculations accessible, understandable and accurate for everyone. Whether you are an employee, freelancer (ZZP), expat or student, everyone deserves clear insight into what remains of their gross salary after taxes and social contributions.
The Dutch tax system is complex, with multiple brackets, tax credits, social insurance contributions and special arrangements such as the 30% ruling for expats. We translate this complexity into simple, clear calculators that give you a reliable result within seconds.
Our platform was born from a personal need: when Mottalib moved to the Netherlands, he found it surprisingly difficult to get a clear answer to the simple question "how much net salary will I actually receive?" Existing tools were either outdated, inaccurate, or hidden behind paywalls. That experience drove the creation of a free, transparent and always up-to-date salary calculator for the Netherlands.
Updated for 2026
All our calculators are fully updated for the tax year 2026. This means the most recent rates, brackets, tax credits and regulations have been incorporated, including:
- Tax brackets and rates 2026
- General tax credit (algemene heffingskorting) and labour tax credit (arbeidskorting) 2026
- Social insurance contributions (AOW, Anw, Wlz)
- Income-dependent healthcare contribution (Zvw)
- 30% ruling (phased reduction)
- Self-employment deduction and SME profit exemption
- Minimum wage as of 1 January 2026
We monitor legislative changes throughout the year and update our calculators as soon as new rates or rules are officially published. Our goal is to always reflect the current fiscal reality as accurately as possible, so you can trust the numbers you see.
Our sources
We base all our calculations on official and reliable sources:
- Belastingdienst — The official source for tax rates, tax credits and fiscal regulations
- Rijksoverheid — Information about minimum wage, holiday allowance and employment law
- CBS (Central Bureau of Statistics) — Statistical data on salaries and income in the Netherlands
- SVB (Social Insurance Bank) — Information about national insurance and AOW state pension
- UWV — Data on employee insurance and the labour market
Every number in our calculators can be traced back to an official government publication. We do not use estimates or approximations for core tax parameters. When the Belastingdienst publishes updated rates, we cross-reference them with the underlying legislation to ensure our implementation matches the official rules exactly.
Our methodology
Our calculation engine follows the same steps as the official Dutch payroll process. For the main gross-to-net calculator, this means:
- Gross salary normalization: We take your entered gross salary and normalize it to an annual figure, accounting for holiday allowance (vakantiegeld) and optional 13th month.
- Social insurance contributions: We calculate the employee share of Zvw (healthcare insurance), which is withheld by the employer and paid as an income-dependent contribution.
- Tax bracket application: Your taxable income is run through the 2026 tax brackets to determine the base income tax and social contributions (loonbelasting + premies volksverzekeringen).
- Tax credits: The general tax credit (algemene heffingskorting) and labour tax credit (arbeidskorting) are calculated based on your income level and subtracted from the tax liability.
- Special rules: If applicable, we apply the 30% ruling discount, the self-employment deduction, AOW exemptions, or other special provisions.
- Net result: The final net salary is your gross minus all taxes, contributions and credits.
All calculations run entirely in your browser using JavaScript. No salary data is ever sent to our servers. This ensures complete privacy and instant results without waiting for a server response.

Who uses our platform?
Our calculators serve a diverse audience across the Netherlands and beyond:
- Employees who want to quickly check their payslip or plan a salary negotiation with hard numbers
- Expats and internationals navigating the Dutch tax system for the first time, especially those eligible for the 30% ruling
- Freelancers (ZZP'ers) who need to estimate their tax burden, set hourly rates, or compare freelancing with employment
- HR professionals and recruiters who use our tools to prepare salary proposals and explain net pay to candidates

We test edge cases such as very low incomes (where tax credits exceed the tax liability), very high incomes (above the social insurance ceilings), and special situations like the 30% ruling or multiple jobs.
